Fortunes have been made throughout history – and more than a fair share have been based on the expertise, skill and spirit of those who lived and worked in London. The coffee shops of the 17th and 18th century saw the foundations of the City’s reputation for world-wide trade and business expertise. Yet alongside wealth has been poverty and disease. Plague, violence, hunger and exploitation of the masses have also left their mark on the City providing stories that are intriguing, sad and inspiring. |
