The Great Fire

When the fire started at the baker’s shop in Pudding Lane in the early hours of 2nd September 1666, Londoners slept on, unaware of the developing disaster.

Fires often started in the wooden houses and workshops built side by side in the maze of narrow, crowded streets . This time it was different.  Five days later, two thirds of the City was destroyed.  It was a staggering catastrophe….and changed the face of London.
