When the fire started at the baker’s shop in Pudding Lane in the early hours of 2^nd September 1666, Londoners slept on, unaware of the developing disaster.

Fires often started in the wooden houses and workshops built side by side in the maze of narrow, crowded streets . This time it was different.  Five days later, two thirds of the City was destroyed.  It was a staggering catastrophe….and changed the face of London.
