AS THE DAYS GET SHORTER !
For tourists, London presents an all-the-year-round opportunity to explore the history of a city that offers so much history and is linked to characters, personalities and politicians, and events, ceremonial and traditional, that have origins going back several centuries. Summer is the peak period for visitors and the main attractions are often packed and there are long queues to see inside the Tower of London and St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Yet no-one should ignore what the Winter months can offer. There is still much to see and do when daylight is restricted . LONDON FOOTSTEPS recognises that by having walks in and around the City you can overcome the weather that may be unfriendly. For example, many of the churches designed by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of 1666 remain open. Step inside and you can learn so much. They are worth visiting all year round.
In recent years, new rooftop gardens have become popular so a trip to the 30th or 40th floor of one of the newer office blocks – or even higher – is a chance to look down on the remarkable vista of the city. You won’t get wet or struggle against the wind. There are rooftop gardens which are under cover and if you fancy a coffee there is often somewhere right at the top to take a ‘time-out’. And if the weather unexpectedly dry and sunny then you can also see why the City has created so many pedestrian areas and ‘pocket parks’
So think about taking a winter walk around the City of London and if you want more information then get in touch with LONDON FOOTSTEPS.
